The Hunger Games: The Exhibition

Hello all!

This is going to be a quick post since I somehow hurt my finger and it's a tad tricky typing with a splint on hah!

So yesterday, I went into the city to see The Hunger Games Exhibition at Discovery Times Square. That's one of my favorite places in the city, and when I heard they were bringing a props exhibit from the film, I knew I had to go.

Not only were there props and costumes from the films, there were also a bunch of interactive stations-- one tested your knowledge of knot making, another let you browse through the districts and gave you a breakdown of each (it also showed you where they would each be located in the US which was cool), and there was even a little station where you could learn a bit of the stunt choreography from the films.

I took a lot of pictures for you guys to enjoy, and if any of you are in the New York area and have the chance, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!

That is mahogany!

They had a bunch of baking things in the gift
shop with Peeta's Bakery all over them!

The last portion of the exhibit is all fan art
which were all amazing.

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Fandom Phrases

Hello all!

I decided I couldn't pass up this weeks 5 Fandom Friday because I do love a good catch phrase (side-note: this was much harder than I thought--I have so many favorites!), so here are my picks:

1. "Get Out!" - Seinfeld: I'm pretty much Elaine Benes and I'm so guilty of doing this to everyone. And I'm not sorry.

2. "In the name of the Moon, I'll punish you!" - Sailor Moon: Raise your hand if you didn't shout this along with Usagi during the transformation sequence. Just what I thought, no hands.

3. "Groovy" - The Evil Dead: It was a toss up between this and "This is my boom stick!" but I think this one pretty much sums up the entire Evil Dead saga a bit better. Heart eyes forever for you Ash, chainsaw hand and all.

4. "Shiny" - Firefly: You pretty much have the pick of the litter when it comes to one liners and phrases from this show, so no matter what you choose, you can't go wrong.

5. "May the Force be with you" - Star Wars: As if I could make a list of my favorite fandom phrases and not include my favorite fandom of all. C'monnnnn.

What are some of your favorites?

Let's Talk: Geeks who Drink

Good afternoon, all!

I'm not sure if anyone else has been watching the new Syfy show Geeks who Drink, but I'm in love with it. Mainly, because I am a sucker for any sort of trivia, but also because I've found that I now have a huge crush on Zachary Levi.

The show started a few weeks ago and it's basically like a bar trivia game show with celebrities. Basically, there are two teams of three captained by a celebrity, each team has to answer nerdy questions asked by Zachary Levi (the very amusing and enthusiastic host) in order to rack up their bar tabs, and the team with the highest bar tab at the end is the winner.  Along with answering questions, there's also challenges they need to do as well--think of it almost as a smaller nerdier version of the physical challenge on Double Dare.

Throughout the game, if the teams are tied or whenever they go to break, everyone including the audience takes a drink, so it's a very interactive game show as well. Aside from the trivia, each team also comes up with a witty/pun related team name; like for example, Alan Tudyk, aka Wash from Firefly, was just on and his team name was "Slurenity." Genius. I am always up for a play on words.

I've loved game shows ever since I was little, and it's been a dream of mine to be on one ever since I used to spend my sick days in elementary school watching The Price is Right and Supermarket Sweep. Mix that love with geeky trivia and Heather is one happy gal.

But seeing as how I don't drink, I guess I'll just continue to drink water and scream all the answers at my TV. Have any of you guys been watching? If not, definitely check it out-- Thursdays at 11 pm on Syfy or catch up with the past episodes here!
