5 Reasons to Use Your Library More

Hello, all!

It's National Library week! It's no secret that I'm a library girlie. Since I was a kid, I've considered the library a safe space. It has such a calming effect on me. I love that libraries care so much about providing information and education that they give it away for free. I saw a shirt once that said, "What's more punk rock than the public library?", and it's so true. So here are just a few reasons why you should consider supporting your local library.

-Let's get the most obvious one out of the way-- saving money! Like most things in this economy, book prices are insane. I used to go to the bookstore and drop tons of money on books only to end up not enjoying them or, sometimes, not even reading them. Now, I borrow as many books as I want, and the only time I spend money is if I end up loving a book so much that I need to have it on my shelves.

-Saves space. This is a big one for all my other small apartment-dwelling bookworms. Sometimes, there's not enough space for a large book collection, so at least with the library, you know you can return them once you've finished.

-Allows you to try out different genres for free. If you're unsure whether or not you'd like sci-fi, instead of buying a bunch of books to try, you can borrow them from the library and not have to worry if you don't like them. The library is a great way to taste-test different books to see what works for you.

-Support your community. The easiest way to help your community is by signing up for a library card. The more patrons a library has, the more funding is given, which means more ways the library can give back to you. It's a win-win for all!

-Access to fun activities. This one may vary depending on the library, but I know for mine, they offer so many different services. There are trips you can sign up for (I went on one to Sleepy Hollow for my birthday one year), museum passes, classes for kids and adults, and some even have book clubs you can sign up for and author events.
