In Her Own League Review

Hello, all!

Let's chat about In Her Own League by Liz Tomforde.

Pub Date: 3-3-26
Adult - Contemporary Romance

Reese Remington has just made history by becoming the first female team owner in Major League Baseball. Despite what the many critics say, Reese has spent her whole life preparing for this role. She spent years learning by her grandfather's side and working behind the scenes, and now it's finally time for her to take up the mantle of the Windy City Warriors. However, the public only sees a woman in a man's role, so Reese knows she must avoid any distractions if she hopes to be taken seriously.

All-Star player-turned-coach Emmett Montgomery loves working for the Warriors. He treats his players like family, and he's never felt more at home than he does in the dugout. Emmett is pretty stuck in his ways with how he likes to do things, and Reese is the shake-up he wasn't expecting. At first, the pair refuses to see eye-to-eye, but as the season progresses, a different sort of emotion sparks between them. Heated arguments turn into heated passion, but they both know that if their relationship is discovered, Reese would be the one scrutinized, not Emmett. This job has been Reese's dream for so long, and now she must decide if she's willing to sacrifice it all for love.

Liz Tomforde has such a knack for making me go feral for fictional characters. I've always liked Emmett from the snippets we've seen of him throughout the Windy City series, so I was so excited that he was getting his own book. Y'all, this man. He was the perfect mix of grumpy and soft-hearted. I loved how much he cared for his people and was willing to do anything for them. It was fun seeing him and Reese butt heads, but it was even better when they began to trust one another enough to let down their defenses. Reese was a strong, independent woman and always felt like she wasn't allowed to be soft, but Emmett was that safe space for her, and it was beautiful. Aside from the romance, I thought Tomforde did a great job showcasing what it feels like to be a woman in a male-dominated field. It made the conflict and the issues Reese and Emmett faced more realistic. I loved how everything wrapped up, and Tomforde has officially solidified herself as an auto-buy author for me.
