The Austen Affair- Madeline Bell: Tess Bright has just landed her dream role in an adaptation of Northanger Abbey, and with her career struggling, she knows she can't afford any distractions. Not only will this job prove her acting chops, but it's also the perfect way for Tess to pay homage to her Jane Austen-obsessed late mother. But there's one thing standing in Tess's way, her stuffy co-star, Hugh Balfour. The pair couldn't be more different, but when an electrical accident sends them back in time, they only have each other to rely on. Tess and Hugh must use their acting skills to blend into the Regency period, but the longer they're stuck, the more their animosity towards one another begins shifting to something resembling affection.

As a Jane Austen fanatic, this sounded too good to pass up. I loved the idea of two actors in a period piece being thrust back into that time. It's the perfect early-2000's rom-com material. Bell's writing was bubbly and fun. I enjoyed watching Tess and Hugh banter back and forth. They're complete opposites, but once they got to know each other, their differences ended up complementing one another. I would've liked their tension to linger a little longer before it turned romantic, but it was still good. The ending also felt rushed, but overall, this was so entertaining.

Hat Trick- Chelsea Curto: Riley Mitchell is at the height of his hockey career, riding the high of back-to-back Stanley Cup wins, when his life is turned upside down. After a car accident leaves him with an amputated right leg, Riley is sure his career is over. Hockey has been his main focus for most of his life, and now, Riley is struggling to find his place away from the ice. Lexi Armstrong is the athletic trainer for the D.C. Stars and is determined to help Riley with his rehabilitation. The pair have been friends for years, but soon their dynamic shifts and they give in to their chemistry. What starts as a one-time thing turns into a friends-with-benefits situation neither saw coming. Lexi has never been the type for relationships, but that hasn't stopped Riley from pining after her for years, and the emotional connection they share leaves Lexi questioning everything.

I'm a staunch believer that romances shouldn't be over 500 pages, but I'm going to let this one slide because it was that good. I thought Curto handled all of the heavier moments with such care. Riley's emotional journey was so well done. He was so layered, and his reaction to everything felt very realistic. Lexi's character was also fantastic. She was snarky and independent, and I loved how much she cared for Riley. She was so eager to help him and supported him when things got hard. Their chemistry was off the charts. I found it so adorably contrasting how Riley could go from blushing at just a smile from Lexi to being so dominating in the bedroom. Aside from the romance, I loved seeing how strong the brotherhood between all the boys is. They really stepped up for Riley, and it was so heartwarming to see. This is easily one of my favorites in the series so far, and I can't wait to continue.

Safari Murder Party- Rachel Moore: Fletcher Spence has spent the last three years working seventy-hour weeks without any PTO as an executive assistant to a media mogul. The only reason Fletcher has stuck around Cartwright Media is in the hopes that she'll one day be promoted to their design division and can live out her dreams of becoming a travel photographer. Fletcher usually plays by the book, but she decides to take a chance and forces herself onto the company retreat to the Cartwrights' private island. When they arrive, her boss is mauled by a pack of lions, revealing his dramatic last will and testament. Those who survive a week on the island will inherit the company. Now, Fletcher finds herself trapped in the jungle, surrounded by vicious predators and murderous coworkers, with only Waylon Cartwright, her boss's insufferably handsome son, as an ally.

This was so fun! The whole premise is a little absurd, but in the best possible way. Moore's writing was sharp and humorous, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I thought Fletcher was so relatable, and I loved the dynamic between her and Waylon. Their banter was everything. It was entertaining watching them fight their way through the jungle while also trying to ignore their growing feelings. There were quite a few times their antics had me laughing out loud. The plot sort of felt like if the movie Ready or Not was set in the workplace, and I liked it. The ending felt like it wrapped up a little too conveniently, but I still had a blast reading this.
