Series Check-In

Hello, all!

I thought it might be fun to go through all the series I've started so far this year and whether or not I'll be continuing them.

Starting with Manga:
  • Little Witch Academia: I love anything witchy or that has a school setting, so I was looking forward to this one, but it wasn't for me. It read a little too young and I couldn't get into it. Verdict: Will not continue
  • Fullmetal Alchemist: This quickly became one of my all-time favorite manga series. I'm obsessed and even started watching the anime. Verdict: Will definitely continue.
  • The Apothecary Diaries: I recently picked this up after seeing it in someone's vlog. It was just a quick glimpse in a bookstore clip--the person didn't even pick it up/talk about it--but it caught my eye enough to want to read it. I like the main character, and it has a historical fantasy-ish vibe that I dig. Verdict: Will continue.
Now, for the books:
  • Death and the Sisters (Mary Shelley Mystery): I love historical mystery, so to find one that has Mary Shelley as the main character felt like it was written for me. But everything felt very bland and unengaging. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • The Serpent and the Wings of Night (Crowns of Nyaxia): The Serpent and the Wings of Night didn't blow me away, but it was still a fun time. I also recently read the little novella that takes place in the same world, and liked that was well. Verdict: Will continue.
  • The Stardust Thief (The Sandsea Trilogy): Ugh, this was blander than a saltine cracker. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • How to Solve Your Own Murder (Castle Knoll Files): This was one of my favorite reads of the year so far. I liked the main character; she gives off a Jessica Fletcher vibe I really enjoyed. The mystery was also well done. Verdict: Will continue.
  • The Forest Grimm (The Forest Grimm): I went into this thinking it was a standalone, and while I think it works better as one, I could see myself picking up another. Verdict: Might continue.
  • American Royals (American Royals): Waaaaaaay too drawn out. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • Bless Your Heart (Bless Your Heart): This should've been a standalone. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries): Should I be concerned with how much I related to a socially awkward, TV-obsessed, sarcastic robot that refers to itself as 'Murderbot'? Hmm... maybe, but it was so fun. Verdict: Will continue.
  • Heartless Hunter (The Crimson Moth): There were many things I liked about this and many things that gave me the ick, so I'm on the fence. Verdict: Might continue.
  • Lore of the Wilds (Lore of the Wilds): This felt like every other fantasy romance rolled together. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • A Door in the Dark (Waxways): I wish the execution was as good as the premise. The main character was super unlikable and the magic/world needed to be fleshed out more. Verdict: Will not continue.
  • The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive): I finally started this series! I only really cared about Kaladin's POV, but my friend says I need to continue, so that's what I'll do. Verdict: Will (slowly) continue.
So, those are all the series I've started this year. What about you? Any you're looking forward to continuing?
