Where the Library Hides Review (Secrets of the Nile, #2)
Hello, all!
One of my favorite reads of last year was What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez (review here), so I was thrilled when I received an early copy of the conclusion, Where the Library Hides. Massive thank you to the publisher for the copy!

Since arriving in Egypt, Inez Olivera has been met with nothing but heartbreak. The mother she thought was dead betrays her; she's watched her beloved cousin murdered in front of her, and now her uncle is trying to ship her back to Buenos Aires, claiming it's for her good. The only way for Inez to stay in Egypt and bring her mother to justice is by marrying Whitford Hayes.
There's no denying the chemistry between Inez and the former British soldier, but something about Whit's intentions nags at Inez. Despite her reservations, she agrees to the marriage, and the pair set off to track down Inez's mother and the treasure she stole from Cleopatra's tomb. Inez will do anything to reclaim the artifacts to clear her uncle's name, even accept help from an unlikely source. But the deeper Inez digs, the more secrets she uncovers, making her rethink everything she knows about herself and her family.
As mentioned, I adored the first book in this series, so my expectations were sky-high going into this one. I hate to say I'm disappointed, but I am a smidge. I liked Inez in the first book. I thought she was strong-willed and determined, but she frustrated me to no end here. She was so gullible and impulsive, leading her to make terrible decisions. I just wanted to shake some sense into her. Even though the relationship between her and Whit felt extra melodramatic, I couldn't help but root for them because I love them together. As for the plot, it was super predictable. I called every twist from the beginning, so nothing about the reveals was that impactful. The pacing was also slow, and all the action was saved for the last ~40 percent, making the ending feel rushed. I don't think it was a bad book, but I was hoping for more.
