When Kai Rhodes discovered he was a father, he vowed to change his carefree ways and be there for his son. He already missed the first six months of his son's life, and he refuses to miss a moment more. But as the star pitcher for a Chicago baseball team, Kai is already stretched thin. He doesn't trust anyone to take care of his son the way he would, so every nanny only lasts a few weeks, so when his coach tells him he's hired someone for him--and that she's his daughter--Kai knows he has to suck it up and at least give her a chance.
Miller Montgomery has never stayed in the same place for long. As a sought-after pastry chef, she spends most of her time helping restaurants around the country perfect their dessert menus. But after winning a prestigious award, Miller is feeling burnt out and in dire need of a break. She should be spending her summer perfecting new recipes, but instead, she's nannying for the cutest little boy and his grumpy father. Miller and Kai bump heads at every turn, but the more time they spend together, the more their impressions of each other begin to change. Miller brings the fun back into Kai's life, and he brings the spark back into her baking. Chicago was only supposed to be a pit stop for Miller, but as the summer ticks down, she can't help but feel like she belongs there. It figures the only person who could give Isaiah Rhodes a run for his money as peak book boyfriend material would be his brother. Kai had so much riding on his shoulders, partly because he felt like he needed to and partly because he just genuinely wanted to take care of his people. Since he was a teenager, he was never in a position to ask anyone for help, so watching Miller break through his defenses and push his buttons was so fun. They had such a great dynamic. Miller brought out a side of Kai he had lost, and he helped her understand what she truly wanted out of life. It was heartwarming seeing the little family they formed long before their relationship turned romantic. I've been having so much fun binging this series, and I can't wait to continue.
