Mid-Year Reading Check-In

Hello, all!

1. Best book you've read so far this year? 

I'm going to give it to my first five star read of the year: The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin.

2. Best sequel you've read so far this year? 

There was a new Veronica Speedwell book released this year, so obviously, that one.

3. New release you haven't read yet but want to? 

So many, but I'll go with Tropesick by Lauren Okie.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year? 

The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig. I neeeeeed this book in my hands ASAP.

5. Biggest disappointment? 

Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman. Like so many others, I became obsessed with the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, so I was excited to read something different by him, but I didn't love it.

6. Biggest surprise? 

Throne of Nightmares by Kerri Maniscalco. I've had a love-hate relationship with Maniscalco's writing over the last few years, and this series hasn't been my favorite, so I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did.

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)? 

Chelsea Curto! I've been binge-reading her books this year, and it's been so much fun.

8. Newest fictional crush? 

George from Our Perfect Storm. We love a man who yearns.

9. Newest favorite character? 

Emma M. Lion! We'd be such good friends.

10. A book that made you cry? 

I never have an answer for this one since I don't get emotional over books 🤷

11. A book that made you happy? 

The Best Little Motel in Texas by Lyla Lane. This was such a fun cozy mystery, and I really hope it becomes a series because I want more from these characters.

12. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received)? 

The Page editions of Jane Austen's books. I'm obsessed with these covers!

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Again, so many! I'll go with the latest ACOTAR release and Dead Beat by Leigh Bardugo.
