Mile High Review (Windy City, #1)

Hello, all!

I recently binged the entire Windy City series by Liz Tomforde, so let's chat about the first book, Mile High.

Adult - Contemporary

Evan Zanders is known for being a hothead on the ice and a playboy off it. It doesn't matter if that's not who he truly is inside; Zanders knows the role he was given, and he has no problem playing it up. Zanders is accustomed to getting whatever he wants and having everyone, especially the ladies, fawn over him. So, when he meets the feisty new flight attendant on his team plane, he's shocked when she doesn't cower from him.

Stevie Shay is no stranger to egotistical athletes. Her brother plays professional basketball, so she doesn't bat an eye at working around a bunch of hockey players. But what Stevie can't stand is the arrogant defenseman who can't seem to keep his hands away from the call button. Even though she and Zanders butt heads, neither can deny the attraction simmering between them. Stevie has been burned in the past and is looking for the one person who will finally put her first, but will that be Zanders?

I've had this on my radar for a while, and I'm glad I finally got to it. This series has a lot of hype surrounding it, and it's well deserved. I enjoyed our two main characters. Stevie was sassy, and I loved how she wasn't intimidated by Zanders. He took every opportunity to push her buttons, and she gave as good as she got. Zanders tried so hard to come off as a bad boy, but at his core, he was sweet and a little scared. The pair both have a lot of insecurities, and it was satisfying to see them work on those vulnerabilities, both together and individually. My issue with this was that it was way too long. There wasn't enough going on plot-wise to justify the length, and I found myself getting pretty bored. I enjoyed the romance and the characters, but I don't see this being my favorite out of the series.
